Not everybody likes the label ‘single’. Singles all over the world would rather be ‘in a relationship’ or ‘married’. But wait… because single life isn’t as awful as your grandmother, aunt or engaged little sister makes it seem. You don’t have to make an effort to find somebody to love. You have to love yourself and your current status first. And believe me, there is a whole lot to love about it.
I must admit that ‘single’ isn’t the hottest term around. After centuries, the word has been tainted. It sounds way too negative. So I started looking for something new to label myself with. The term ‘solo’ hasn’t been tainted at all. I find guitar solo’s very positive for example. So why not call myself a ‘solochick’? Sounds cooler than ‘single’, right?
And as a solochick, I have many things to say and stories to tell. There are so many myths around being single that I would like to clear out myself. And I decided to do this in two languages instead of one, since people all over the world are not yet aware of how awesome being single actually is (unless they have seen Barney in How I Met Your Mother maybe).
I’m sure I could fill an entire weblog about being single, advantages and disadvantages, people judging me and so on. And I can keep on writing about this topic, because there is so much to say about it. And I’ll be saying this in two languages: English and Dutch (my mother language).
You’ve obviously already found the English version of the blog. The Dutch one is right here: solochickblogindutch.wordpress.com.
